“Created to aid students and Bible readers in better understanding the sacred scripture,” this dictionary, authored by Albert Leighton Rawson, was printed in 1872. The contents are compiled from the latest reference works of Smith, Kitto, and Fairbairn, who created or contributed to Bible dictionaries and encyclopedias in the nineteenth century. The dictionary says it contains every important scriptural word and is accompanied by 500 engravings. Bible dictionaries are popular tools that provide additional insight and context into biblical words, concepts, etc. This Bible dictionary spent many years treasured by Pauline Tavilla, who purchased it from one of her favorite places. Pauline spent her life in service to others; initially by taking care of her siblings after a tragic accident, later by working in ministry and eventually opening a children’s home.

Printed in 1872 by A. J. Holman & Co., Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. Acquired ca. 1940s by Pauline Tavilla Citro in Massachusetts;[1] Gifted in 1988 to Rosalie Tavilla; Donated in 2018 to Museum of the Bible, Washington, DC.

Notes: [1] Purchased at Arlington Trading Post in St. Arlington, Massachusetts.
