President Grover Cleveland and First Lady Frances Folsom Cleveland owned and read this Bible. President Cleveland served as the 22nd (1885–1889) and 24th (1893–1897) President of the United States, the only American president elected to two non-consecutive terms. He married Frances during his first term in 1886, becoming the first sitting president to marry in the White House. President Cleveland’s name is written in gold gilt lettering on the front cover. Francis inscribed her initials, “F. F. C.,” on the first page of Genesis, along with the note, “began July 21. ’06.” She wrote, “Finished Westland Princeton, N.J. May 19, 1907. F. F. C.,” on the last page of Malachi, presumably after reading the entire Old Testament.
Printed around 1900 by Oxford University Press, New York or London. Privately purchased by 2010 by Gene Albert (Christian Heritage Museum), Hagerstown, Maryland;[1] Privately purchased in 2010 by Green Collection, Oklahoma City, Oklahoma; Donated in 2021 to The Signatry, Overland Park, Kansas, under the curatorial care of Museum of the Bible, Washington, DC.
