John Wesley (1703–1791) was an English preacher and revivalist who founded the first Methodist Society in 1739. Although Wesley and his brother Charles encountered significant resistance due to their embrace of certain unorthodox theological positions, such as perfectionism, Methodism eventually expanded into an international movement with millions of adherents. Wesley was also keenly interested in science and medicine. A Survey of the Wisdom of God in Creation is a work of natural history and medicine, moving from the anatomy, functions, and illnesses of the human body, to animals, birds, and fish. The entire book aimed to demonstrate how the wonders of nature testify to the wisdom and power of God. This is the first volume of the first edition, printed in 1763.

Additional inscriptions on the front pastedown and front free endpaper are faded and illegible.
