Unable to purchase recordings of sermons or services due to the German Democratic Republic’s anti-religious policies, Joachim Ullrich brought his own equipment and recorded this sermon, Aufruhr um Einen Spatz (Riot about a Sparrow), by Lutheran evangelist and youth pastor Theo Lehmann. The sermon draws on Matthew 10, which talks about how God knows and cares for all his creatures, including the most common type of bird, a sparrow. Lehmann spread messages geared to the youth about hope and the love of God, often incorporating humor and music.
