Designed by Nancy Torres Lopez and printed in 2019, this stamp commemorates the 450th anniversary of the printing of the first complete Spanish Bible. The Bible, often called Biblia del Oso, or "Bible of the Bear," because of the printer’s emblem on the title page, which shows a bear foraging for honey in the trunk of a tree, was first printed in 1569 from a translation by the Spanish Reformer Casiodoro de Reina (1520–1594). The creation of this commemorative stamp 450 years after the Bible’s publication demonstrates its continued relevance in popular culture.
