This book, by a Divine of the Church of England, includes the history of Jesus in seven books bound together with, “The Lives of the Apostles and Evangelists.” Throughout the text are theological, historical, geographical, and critical dissertations, along with 33 copperplate illustrations and two foldout maps that depict the travels of Jesus and his apostles. The title page states this was printed for Arthur Bettesworth (d. 1739) and Charles Hitch (ca. 1704–1764) in 1738. Bettesworth, a publisher and bookseller, was Hitch’s father-in law, and they partnered together on various projects. Hitch was an individual publisher and printer who sold maps, prints, and other various materials in the mid-1700s.

Printed in 1738 for Arthur Bettesworth and Charles Hitch, London, England. Acquired by Jacob Lystey.[1] Acquired by 2010 by Gene Albert (Christian Heritage Museum), Hagerstown, Maryland; Privately purchased in 2010 by Green Collection, Oklahoma City, Oklahoma; Donated in 2016 to National Christian Foundation (later The Signatry), under the curatorial care of Museum of the Bible, Washington, DC.

Notes: [1] An inscription on the title page reads “Ex Libris Jacob Lystey.”
