This manuscript includes a print of Exeter Cathedral and four hymns handwritten by Reginald Heber (1783–1826), an English minister and hymnwriter. Heber was the Bishop of Calcutta from 1822 to 1826 and is best known for authoring the beloved hymn “Holy, Holy, Holy” in 1861. This manuscript includes: three stanzas of a hymn of unknown authorship (perhaps Heber) beginning with “Thou dwellest not in temples made;” four stanzas of a hymn of unknown authorship (perhaps Heber) labeled, “The Hour of Prayer;” eight stanzas of a hymn labeled, “What Is Prayer,” written by James Montgomery in 1818 and titled, “Prayer Is the Soul’s Sincere Desire;” and two stanzas of a hymn simply labeled, “Hymn,” that was written by Heber in 1807 and titled, “Forth from the Dark and Stormy Sky.”
