Lois Parker (b. 1834) was a co-founder of the Women’s Foreign Missionary Society of the Methodist Episcopal Church in 1869 and the Epworth League in India. Together with her husband, Rev. E. W. Parker (later bishop), they worked together in India for over forty years. While in India, she oversaw boarding schools for both girls and boys and superintended several schools. Lois continued to live and work in India after her husband’s death in 1901 and two schools in Lucknow, India, were named after her. Throughout their years, the Women’s Foreign Missionary Society sent women missionaries to Africa, South America, and various other countries, including India, China, Japan, Korea, Italy, Mexico, Bulgaria, and the Philippines.

Created around 1869 by Amory Nelson Hardy (1835–1911), Boston, Massachusetts.[1] Acquired by 2010 by Gene Albert (Christian Heritage Museum), Hagerstown, Maryland; Privately purchased in 2010 by Green Collection, Oklahoma City, Oklahoma; Donated in 2017 to National Christian Foundation (later The Signatry), under the curatorial care of Museum of the Bible, Washington, DC.
Notes: [1] Amory Nelson Hardy was a photographer in Boston at No. 493 Washington Street in the late 1800s. The cardboard back contains the photographer’s stamp, “Hardy, 493 Washington St., Boston.” Also written on the back in two different places, each in a different hand, is “Mrs. Lois Parker.”
