This Bible belonged to Admiral David Farragut of the United States Navy, who presented it to an unknown individual. Farragut served in the War of 1812, the Mexican–American War, and the American Civil War. During the Civil War, he was a flag officer and advanced through the ranks to become the first rear admiral, vice admiral, and admiral in the United States Navy. The famous phrase “full speed ahead” is a paraphrase of then Rear Admiral Farragut’s command during the Battle of Mobile Bay.
