William Tyndale’s English New Testament was first printed in 1526, with revised editions following in 1534 and 1536. Three editions of Tyndale’s New Testament were published in 1536; this fragment is from one of them. By 1536, Tyndale was condemned as a heretic and given an opportunity to recant. When he refused, he was strangled and set on fire. Despite his death, Tyndale’s translation continued to influence English Bible translation through the next century.
