This hand-colored lithograph was once part of a two-volume set titled, Biblical Pictures of the Old Testament and Biblical Pictures of the New Testament, published by John Weik & Co., Publisher & Importer, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. Each lithograph is numbered and includes the title and biblical reference in French, German, and English. This print is marked with the Roman numeral “XII.” The biblical reference is to John 6:1–13. It depicts Jesus seated on a rock in front of a tree with both hands raised toward a young boy holding a basket with five loaves of bread. Behind the boy stand two men (likely the apostles Philip and Andrew) looking on at the scene. In the distance, a large crowd of people sits on the ground. The matte frame (a later addition) includes a printed reference to John 6:9 in the King James Version.
