The Holy Bible Translated out of the Original Tongues into Canarese by a Committee of Missionaries of the German, London, and Wesleyan Missionary Societies (consisting of H. G. Weigle, H. Moegling, C. Campbell, B. H. Rice, J. Garrett, and D. Sanderson); for the Madras Auxiliary Bible Society. This is the first complete Bible in Canarese, a language known today as Kannada, which is spoken primarily by people in the South Indian state of Karnataka and by linguistic minorities in the states of Andhra Pradesh, Telangana, Tamil Nadu, Mahaashtra, Kerala, and Goa. With roughly 40 million native speakers, Kannada ranks 33rd in the list of most spoken languages in the world. It is the official and administrative language of the state of Karnataka. The Bible is bound in contemporary cloth boards, with a calf spine and repaired calf corners.

Printed in 1860 by the Wesleyan Mission Press, Bangalore, India. Acquired by an unknown book dealer; Purchased by Andrew Stimer, private collector, Camarillo, California;[1] Privately purchased in 2016 by Green Collection, Oklahoma City, Oklahoma; Donated in 2017 to National Christian Foundation (later The Signatry), under the curatorial care of Museum of the Bible, Washington, DC.
