In 1540, the New Testament was the first book printed in the Icelandic language. In 1863, a new translation was developed by Pétur Pétursson and Sigurður Melsteð. They compared the earlier 1500s translations with Greek, Hebrew, French, English, Danish, and Norwegian versions.

Acquired before 2016 by Dr. Andrew Stimer, private collector, Camarillo, California; Purchased in 2016 by Green Collection, Oklahoma City, Oklahoma; Donated in 2017 to National Christian Foundation (later The Signatry) under the curatorial care of Museum of the Bible, Washington, DC.
