Translated by Desiderius Erasmus. Published by Johann Froban. This first edition of Erasmus’s Greek New Testament is the earliest publication of the New Testament in Greek. Erasmus and Froban rushed the translation and publication of this work to appear before the Complutensian Polyglot. Erasmus’s Latin translation of the text was printed alongside the Greek translation. Due to the rush to complete the printing, many errors appeared. In 1518–1519, the New Testament was reprinted, correcting many of these errors. The dedication to Leo X is enclosed within ornamental borders, and throughout this text there are numerous ornaments and initialed letters.

Published by Johann Froban in 1516, Basel, Switzerland. Acquired by Bibliotheca Regiomontana (Koenigsberg). Acquired in 1702 by Henricus Bartys. Acquired around 2000 by David Lachman, Los Angeles, California; Purchased in 2003 by Christian Heritage Museum, Hagerstown, Maryland; Purchased in 2010 by Green Collection, Oklahoma City, Oklahoma; Donated in 2014 to Museum of the Bible, Washington, DC
