Translated by Richard Francis Weymouth (1822–1902), a school teacher and Bible student in England. After Weymouth retired in 1886 from University College London, he devoted himself to biblical studies and textual criticism. Weymouth undertook his translation by consulting various Greek texts of the Bible while focusing on how the writers of the New Testament would have expressed their thoughts using modern English. The New Testament in Modern Speech, sometimes called the Weymouth New Testament, was edited by his secretary and published posthumously in 1903 by companies in New York and London.
Published in 1910 by James Clarke & Co, London, England. Acquired before 1913 by Wilfred Howarth; Gifted to Fred Harwood;[1] Gifted to Don Harwood, Richmond, British Columbia;[2] Purchased by Karen and Lyle Larrigan, Sooke, British Columbia;[3] Donated in 2018 to Museum of the Bible, Washington, DC.
Notes: [1] Inscription on the front endpapers state, “With best wishes from Wilfred Howarth.” [2] Inscription on the front endpapers state, “To Don, I hope the reading and teaching of this book will bear much fruit, from Dad.” Museum of the Bible corresponded with Lyle Larrigan in 2019, who confirmed that Don’s father was Fred Harwood. [3] Lyle purchased this book at a garage sale held at the home of Don Harwood.
