A New York Tribune newspaper published January 5, 1863, recording an anti-Semitic order initiated by General Ulysses S. Grant. The infamous “General Order No. 11” is referenced here on page five with the title “Gen. Grant's Order Against Jews Revoked.” The order extended to Gen. Grant's entire military district across Kentucky, Mississippi, and Tennessee, accusing Jews of illegal trading. This article reports President Lincoln's countermanding of Grant’s order after a Mr. Kaskel, one of the expelled Jewish citizens, applied to Representative Gurley of Ohio.
