The Gospel Tide Hour was a popular religious radio program founded in 1946 by Rev. Charlie Byers and based out of Chambersburg, Pennsylvania. This songbook inspired the program’s name. Byers was one of many ministers in the mid-twentieth century who embraced mass media to reach new audiences. Like other religious programs, The Gospel Tide Hour featured a mixture of sermons, Bible lessons, and gospel music, helping to usher in a new era of mass ministry that fundamentally changed the way people heard the Bible. Byers and his team frequently sang the hymn, “Let the Gospel Tide Roll In,” printed in this songbook, during their broadcasts.
