This portrait of Washington is based on the sitting portrait by Gilbert Stuart. It was originally owned by Dr. Benjamin Rush (1746–1813), a leader in the American Enlightenment and an enthusiastic supporter of the American Revolution. He was a physician and civic leader who attended the Continental Congress, signed the Declaration of Independence, served as Surgeon General of the Continental Army, and is considered one of the founders of American psychiatry.

Painted in 1800. Acquired by 2019 by Ted Steinbock, private collector, Louisville, Kentucky; Privately purchased in 2020 by Museum of the Bible, Washington, DC.
