This German New Testament was printed in New York by the American Bible Society. While not specifically printed for soldiers during the Civil War, this copy belonged to John Weisenhamer of the 23rd Artillery while at Lincoln General Hospital in Washington, DC. Several leaves in the Bible contain bloodstains. The Lincoln General Hospital opened in December 1862 as a military hospital built by the Army. Like most other military hospitals, it was taken down shortly after the Civil War ended in 1865.

Printed in 1863 by the American Bible Society, New York. Acquired by John Weisenhamer.[1] Acquired before 2017 by Chris Mandell of ElevenElevenBooks, Spencerport, New York; Purchased in 2017 by Ted Steinbock, private collector, Louisville, Kentucky; Privately purchased in 2020 by Museum of the Bible, Washington, DC.

Notes: [1] New Testament contains the signature of John Weisenhamer of the 23rd Artillery at Lincoln General Hospital in DC.
