This New International Version (NIV) Bible belonged to Elisabeth Elliot. Gifted to her from the Moody Bible Institute in 1988, it is filled with Elisabeth’s handwritten notes and printed clippings important to her. One such quote, found facing the title page, reads, “One of the martyrs: ‘you take a life from me that I cannot keep, and bestow a life upon me that I cannot lose.” Another reads, “My purpose: To link earthly life w.[with] heavenly principles; to lift our eyes from the v.[very] visible, v.[very] tangible, often v. [very] painful circ.[circumstances] in which we find ourselves to the invisible level on wh.[which] all things are finally interpreted.” Elisabeth Elliot served as a stylistic consultant for the committee of the NIV. The contents page bears a note stating that she circled the books of the Bible she consulted on for the committee.
