This residence permit belonged to Elisabeth Elliot (1926–2015), who was a missionary to the Waodäni people of Ecuador in the 1950s. She moved from the United States to Ecuador in 1952, and in 1953, she married Jim Elliot. In 1956, a Waodäni hunting party killed Jim and four other missionaries. Elisabeth chose to stay with the Waodäni people until 1963, when she returned to the United States.
