In 1958, Elisabeth Elliot and her daughter, Valerie, returned to Ecuador to serve as missionaries to the Waodäni people after the death of her husband, Jim, and four other missionaries. This picture, taken by Elisabeth, shows three Waodäni people looking at a LIFE magazine article while resting. The article, titled, “Child Among Her Father’s Killers, Missionaries Live with Aucas,” featured pictures of Elisabeth, her daughter, Valerie, and the Waodäni people.

Created by Elisabeth Elliot (1926–2015);[1] Via death in 2015 to Lars Gren, Little Rock, Arkansas; Donated in 2020 to Museum of the Bible, Washington, DC.

Notes: [1] Inscriptions on the back state that Elisabeth Elliot took the picture in Ecuador. Magnum Photos, Inc. (New York) distributed the photograph, and the copyright is 1958 by Sam Saint, attorney-in-fact.
