This 1985 New Testament based on Martin Luther's translation was specifically printed for European socialist countries. It was published in the German Democratic Republic shortly after the state-sponsored ceremony celebrating the 500th anniversary of Luther’s birth. The aim of this new translation was to address how government-sponsored anti-Luther sentiment led to the 1975 edition deviating too much from Luther’s original translation.

Printed in 1985 by the Evangelical Main Biblical Society of Berlin and Altenburg, Germany; Purchased after 1985 by Joachim Ullrich, Ore Mountains, Germany; Donated in 2021 to Museum of the Bible, Washington, DC.
