Permitted to be published within the German Democratic Republic, this coloring book reflects the loosening of restrictive policies against the church. Beginning in the late 1970s, churches were granted greater autonomy to hold gatherings and were able to start printing small amounts of material. However, due to paper shortages and required printing permits, they could never print enough. The children’s material was in high demand, often being shared by multiple family members or being resold for inflated prices.

Printed in 1986 by the Press Office of the German Democratic Republic division of Evangelist Methodist Church in Berlin, Germany; Acquired after 1986 by Joachim Ullrich, Ore Mountains, Germany; Donated in 2021 to Museum of the Bible, Washington, DC.
