This manuscript of the hymn “Old Glory, We Love Thee!” was written by author Frances (Fanny) Jane Crosby (1820–1915), and signed with one of her many pseudonyms, Ida Scott Taylor. Crosby became blind at the age of six weeks from an illness. When she was 15, she entered the New York Institution for the Blind, where she eventually became a teacher of English grammar, rhetoric, and American history. She is the author of about 8,000 poems, many of which have been set to music, and published four books. Her words are known across the world, and she has the distinction of being the first woman to speak publicly in the Senate Chamber in Washington, DC.

Written prior to 1915 by Frances (Fanny) Jane Crosby.[1] Acquired before 2010 by Christian Heritage Museum, Hagerstown, Maryland; Privately purchased in 2010 by Green Collection, Oklahoma City, Oklahoma; Donated in 2019 to The Signatry, under the curatorial care of Museum of the Bible, Washington, DC.

Note: [1] The manuscript is signed as Ida Scott Taylor, a known pseudonym of Fanny Crosby. “Old Glory, We Love Thee!” was first published in 1916 in Hymns of Blessing for the Living Church, set to the tune of AFTON, and lists Ida Scott Taylor as the author.
