Pictured here in a formal setting are Aimee Semple McPherson (1890–1944) and her son, Rolf McPherson (1913–2009). Aimee Semple McPherson was a Pentecostal evangelist in the early 1900s and the founder of the Foursquare Church. Aimee is considered to have been the most publicized Protestant evangelist during her time, and she pioneered the use of radio broadcasting to draw in additional listeners for both services and appeals for donations. She was influential in many social and political areas. During the Scopes trial, she became a supporter of William Jennings Bryan and campaigned against Darwinian evolution. After her death, her son, Rolf, led the Foursquare Church denomination for 44 years. This picture is signed by both Rolf and Aimee.
Created around 1930, United States.[1] Acquired by 2010 by Gene Albert (Christian Heritage Museum), Hagerstown, Maryland; Privately purchased in 2010 by Green Collection, Oklahoma City, Oklahoma; Donated in 2017 to National Christian Foundation (later The Signatry), under the curatorial care of Museum of the Bible, Washington, DC.
