Printed in London by T. Hodgson, eighth edition. This children’s Bible is illustrated with engravings throughout which replace some of the words of the text and was used for teaching the Bible to children in a simple and exciting way. This copy is an excellent example of early children’s Bibles. The book was inscribed by, presumably, the first owner: "Francis Jeffery, dated March 26, 1791" on the front of the engraved frontispiece.
Published in 1790 by T. Hodgson, London, England. Acquired in 1791 by Francis Jeffery.[1] Acquired by Adrian Greenwood Rare Books Inc, Oxford, England; Purchased in 2010 by Green Collection, Oklahoma City, Oklahoma; Donated in 2017 to National Christian Foundation (later The Signatry), under the curatorial care of Museum of the Bible, Washington, DC.
Notes: [1] Ownership inscription on the front of the engraved frontispiece and, similarly, on the back of the final leaf: "Francis Jeffery, dated March 26, 1791."
