This hand-colored lithograph was once part of a two-volume set titled, Biblical Pictures of the Old Testament and Biblical Pictures of the New Testament, published by John Weik & Co., Publisher & Importer, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. Each lithograph is numbered and includes the title and biblical reference in French, German, and English. This print is marked with the Roman numeral “XVIII.” The biblical reference is to John 11:1–44. It depicts Jesus, dressed in red, raising one hand toward Lazarus. Lazarus, wrapped in white, is sitting up in his tomb looking at Jesus. His sisters, Mary and Martha, look toward Lazarus as two men stand to the right behind Jesus. The matte frame (a later addition) includes a printed reference to John 11:44 in the King James Version.
