Printed in 1942 for Jewish soldiers serving in the US Army, this pocket-size Bible contains selections from the Hebrew Bible in the 1917 Jewish Publication Society translation. The selections were made by the Jewish Welfare Board, an organization that looked after the welfare of Jewish soldiers and supported Jewish chaplains in the US Armed Services. It opens with a letter from Franklin D. Roosevelt commending the reading of the Bible to soldiers “as an aid in attaining the highest aspirations of the human soul.”
Printed in 1942 by the United States Government Printing Office, Washington, DC.[1] Acquired by Rusty Maisel, private collector, Weatherford, Texas; Purchased in 2010 by Green Collection, Oklahoma City, Oklahoma; Donated in 2016 to National Christian Foundation (later The Signatry), under the curatorial care of Museum of the Bible, Washington, DC.
