The Reina–Valera Bible was created by Cipriano de Valera, a Spanish monk who embraced Protestant theology in the 1550s. After fleeing to England and then Holland, he began revising Casiodoro de Reina’s Bible of 1569, the first Spanish translation of the Old Testament, Apocrypha, and New Testament. Valera published his work in 1602. Today, the Reina–Valera Bible remains the standard version used by many Spanish-speaking Protestants. This copy was once part of the Macclesfield Library, an extensive collection of books assembled over generations by the Earls of Macclesfield.

Printed in 1602 by Loreço Iacobi, Amsterdam, the Netherlands. Acquired before 1632 by Jacobus Rolandus, Leiden, the Netherlands.[1] Acquired by 1705 by Sir Edward Turnour, Essex, England.[2] Acquired by 1860 by the Macclesfield Library, Cheshire, England.
