This edition of the Bible was published by The Gideons International in 2013 in commemoration of the two billionth Bible or portion of the Bible delivered worldwide. The text is based on the English Standard Version. The Gideons International began distributing Bibles and New Testaments in 1908. The first one billion copies were distributed over a span of 93 years (from 1908–2001). The second one billion copies were distributed in just 14 years (from 2002–2015). To mark this milestone a commemorative edition of the Bible was made and given to leaders throughout the world.
