This copy of the books of Joshua, Judges, and Ruth was translated into Choctaw by Alfred Wright, with the help of Cyrus Byington, Joseph Dukes, and W. H. McKinney. Wright was a missionary, educator, and physician. He began working among the Choctaw people in the 1820s, publishing educational and religious texts that are among the earliest printings in Choctaw. Wright and his wife remained with the tribe when it was forcibly relocated to what would become the state of Oklahoma. He eventually established the Wheelock Mission School and in 1846 founded Wheelock Church, which remains the oldest church building still in use in Oklahoma. This text was published in 1852 by the American Bible Society.
