This hand-carved replica of an iconic fifteenth- or sixteenth-century khachkar at Tatev Monastery was made by master cross-stone carver Master Hambik (Hambardzum Hambardzumyan). Unfortunately, we know very little about the original. The master who carved it is unknown. This khachkar depicts mounted warriors fighting, either during the eleventh-century Seljuk Turk invasion or Timur Lane’s late fourteenth-century military campaign. Khachkars that show fight scenes are extremely uncommon, making this a rare treasure.
