After John Newton departed the slave trade and resolved to no longer be a part of it, he was frequently asked to share his story, which caught the attention of John Fawcett and Thomas Haweis. They convinced Newton to finally write his dramatic story in a series of letters in 1764, eventually published together as An Authentic Narrative of Some Remarkable and Interesting Particulars in the Life of Rev. John Newton, Communicated in a Series of Letters to the Reverend Mr. Haweis, Rector of Aldwinkle, Northhamptonshire, and by him (at the request of friends) now made public. Or, for short, An Authentic Narrative of Some Remarkable and Interesting Particulars in the Life of *********.
