Attributed to Matthew Sutcliffe, this work is a response to the Catholic priest John Colleton’s 1604 Supplication to the Kings most excellent Majestie. Published with marginal notes referencing the text, this copy was printed for the London publisher William Aspley. This copy contains the signature of John Robinson, pastor to the Scrooby congregation in Holland, on the title page. In 1620, some of the members of Robinson’s congregation traveled to America on the Mayflower, later these colonists became known as the Pilgrims.
