These leather shoes belonged to Jim Elliot (1926–1957). Philip James Elliot, better known as Jim, traveled to Ecuador in 1952 as an American Christian missionary. While there, he married fellow Wheaton College alumna and missionary Elisabeth Howard. Jim was one of five people killed during Operation Auca, an attempt to evangelize the Waodäni people of Ecuador. These shoes, along with other items that belonged to her late husband, Jim, were kept by Elisabeth in a metal trunk that they used in Ecuador.
